Early detection of cardiac arrhythmia
14 June 2007
Cardiac arrhythmia affects more than 1 million people in the UK every
year and is consistently one of the top 10 reasons for hospital
admission. Arrhythmias can vary widely in type and severity, but once
diagnosed, they can usually be treated effectively with drugs, devise or
surgery, or a combination of all three.
Early detection is vital in deciding on the best course of treatment
and Buckinghamshire-based Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of
frontline medical products and solutions, has responded to customer
demand by launching its new holter systems.
Holter systems can help to detect heart rhythm abnormalities over an
extended period of time and can help improve patient compliance with
their lightweight, compact profiles. The systems can be configured with
a digital recorder to provide fast and accurate data that enables health
professionals to choose a system that best meets their monitoring
requirements.
Two different recorders and software packages are available: the
Welch Allyn Office Holter software or Welch Allyn Expert Holter
software. Both are designed to be fast, powerful and easy to use, while
the Expert Holter software features additional detailed analysis and
comprehensive editing tools.
Arrhythmia Awareness Week runs 11–17 June.
