East Kent chooses Kofax information-capture system for pathology
East Kent Pathology Network (EKPN) is to install a new information
capture system from Kofax, as part of a five-year contract that will
benefit EKPN subsidiaries including the East Kent Hospital NHS Trust,
Medway NHS Trust, Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and Maidstone and
Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
The system, which includes Kofax’s INDICIUS and Ascent Capture, will
enable EKPN to manage incoming pathology specimen request forms more
efficiently, regardless of type and format. EKPN will, for example,
benefit from Kofax’s automatic document separation technology, which
eliminates the need to insert separator sheets and can help to
substantially reduce costs related to printing separator sheets, such as
paper, ink and toner. A suite of customisable software modules that
automates the classification, sorting and separation of paper and
electronic documents, INDICIUS can also greatly reduce the cost of human
errors associated with manual document separation, as it can
automatically extract the handwritten and printed information from the
patient request form to a high degree of accuracy. Ascent Capture,
meanwhile, automates information capture from scanned paper or imported
electronic documents.
“Our number one goal is to improve the quality of service for our
patients and we believe this new solution will help us to achieve this
goal by streamlining requests through our pathology environment”, said
Dai Davies, Pathology Manager at East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust. “We have
already seen tremendous benefits from our electronic document management
system and see extreme value in the addition of document classification,
separation and extraction capabilities to further automate our business
processes.”
Kofax is a division of information capture software firm DICOM Group
plc and is based in California.
