New imaging department at the Whittington
The Whittington Hospital NHS Trust in London has taken delivery of
the final piece of equipment for its innovative new imaging department,
scheduled to open later this year.
The Philips Achieva MRI Scanner was hoisted into position by crane on
9 September (see picture), and will join the CT, digital xray, nuclear
medicine and ultrasound equipment that has already been installed.
“Our current MRI scanner is in its eleventh year, so it is great to
have the new device”, said David Grant, Consultant Radiologist at the
Hospital. “It will enable us to offer patients a greater range and
quality of examinations such as MRCPs and vascular imaging.”
The delivery of the scanner is the last major step towards the
opening of the state-of-the-art new facilities. This and the other new
equipment will position the Whittington as “one of the most advanced
imaging departments in the UK” said David Rolfe, Managing Director at
independent managed-equipment services provider Asteral, who supplied
the equipment.
