Strand software facilitates Class A prescriptions

Cheshire-based Strand Technology, specialists in the development and delivery of electronic care record systems, have launched a program for clinicians working in the area of substance abuse.
A module for the company’s existing CareNotes system, the new software has been designed in association with Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Trust’s five drug teams, and deals primarily with the prescription of controlled Class A drugs.

According to Chris Tyler, Strand Technology’s technical director, it covers both the treatment plans and the generation of prescriptions. “The former deals with what drugs will be used, dates and doses. The latter can deal with both single and batch prescriptions.”

While setting up is simple, the system can be used to generate complex treatment plans, says Tyler: “We’ve tried to provide very flexible capabilities while also making it easy for people to work with best practice.”

Other powerful features include the system’s ability to adjust pick-up days around bank holidays, its capacity to conduct calculations based on the opening times of local pharmacies and its ability to cope with cancellations at short notice.
